This application is available to high school seniors who meet the eligibility criteria as stated in the cover letter of the application. The entire application packet (consisting of: the 3-page application, a personal essay, W-2 financial data, 2 personal references, and academic transcript) must be received at the stated postal address not later than Friday, March 17, 2017.

Alpha's Young Men's Scholarship

Eta Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in collaboration with the HARRELL SPRUILL FOUNDATION ("Har-Pearl Foundation") has established an educational grant to assist eligible African-American male high school graduates who wish to continue their education beyond high school. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is an African-American fraternity, which was founded in 1906 on the fundamentals of scholarship, fraternal fellowship, and service to mankind. The Har-Pearl Foundation provides financial assistance to individuals and community organizations to promote educational opportunities for youth.

The scholarship, which has a one-time award value of $1,000.00, will be paid to the selected honoree after receipt of confirmed enrollment in a college or university. The honoree will also be invited to attend the fraternity’s annual Young Men’s Conference during May 2016 for a public presentation of this award and a presentation at the Senior Awards Program at the student's high school.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates must:

  • Apply for admission to an accredited university, college or community college
  • Demonstrate the need for financial assistance
  • Demonstrate school and community involvement and leadership roles
  • Demonstrate academic achievement in high school (GPA = 2.5 or higher)
